Last week, my friend Becky came to town. We see each other about every five years, and we went out to a fancy dinner at a restaurant called Canlis. Some of the highlights...the valet guy didn't give us a ticket, and the car was waiting for us when we got to the door; we found a bottle of wine for under $100; we ordered five appetizers -- ribs, foie gras, sashimi, steak tartare and one other thing. The steak tartare was the best of the bunch I think. It was prepared with diced onions, peppers and tomatoes on top, and had some spices mixed in. Awesome.
The next day we drove to canada, where she was meeting her family for a cruise up the inner passage to alaska. We made it in record time, even though I rolled through a stop sign at the canadian border, and almost had to get the full cavity search.
Becky encouraged me to write a book, back when I was in grad school. I don't know if I'll do that, but at least she has catalyzed one more blog entry!
